My tenth Advent Policy Brief is a concise demand on all levels of government: ban free parking.
If we want active transportation to become part of Canadians' daily lives, we need to make sweeping planning changes to discourage car use. Banning free parking creates a recurring consequence and nudges drivers psychologically towards active transportation.
I saw an astute tweet that said something to the effect of: "People think about their college years so fondly because it's the only time many of them lived in walkable communities."
